When deciding to bring a puppy into our family we knew that not taking him to training was not a option. Where we take him for this training was an option! We knew of K-9 University because it was close to our house and we used them for some training sessions for our previous dog. We did not however, do the 2 week training for him and after seeing the drastic changes it has made in our new dog, we will always recommend it! Lex, our new puppy, is a 9 month old yellow lad with TONS of crazy energy. In our house we have two small girls and our two girls have lots of friends over. These friends are loud and love to play with the dog. Lex, simply joins in to the playing and as you can imagine he ends up getting kick out of the house.
When he went for the training we weren't quite sure what to expect. The minute we got reintroduced after his session, he was a new dog. He still has the same spirit, but much more polite. He has learned how to control his crazy behavior and become a welcome part of our family. He follows me all over the house, sits when he is told, understands to lay down and off! This is such a great improvement. I can't imagine our family if we hadn't done this!

Hi Chuck,

I just wanted you to know that I took my dog, Zues to the vet today. This is the first time he has been since graduating from K-9. It was wonderful. He allowed people to pet him and he wagged his tail when people approached. He was so good. He did not growl at the vet ( as he had done previously). He even sniffed a dog or two and there were NO Problems. I was so proud of him. I told him that he was a GOOD BOY!

Thanks to Andy and Fred, my dog is the best dog ever!

Just wanted you to know how pleased I am!

Thanks,

Dian Wright

I wanted to thank everyone at the Plano location for helping my dog Maya overcome her fears. Maya was a shelter dog that was adopted out once but returned because she would hide in corners and was fearful of people. After adopting her and gaining her trust over a couple of weeks she became a great member of my family. However she would refuse to step out of the comfort of her new home for walks. Unsure what to do I contacted a few in home trainers told them my issue but after talking with these trainers I didn't really feel comfortable that they could help. Then by chance I drove by K-9 U in Plano and decide to walk in. I setup a time that afternoon to bring Maya by so that Chuck, the owner, could evaluate her. That afternoon Chuck and Larry spent 30 mins just sitting with me and Maya in one of their training rooms just getting to know us. After listening to Chuck I just had a good feeling that this was the right place. I enrolled Maya in the two week day training and boy what a great difference. Maya now demands her daily walks and this once scared stray is even excited to go to her weekly day boarding at K-9 U. Again thanks so much to Chuck and his great staff of trainers and kennel workers and special thanks to Larry, Maya's main trainer, for spending the early time just sitting with Maya those first few days.

We want to thank everyone at K9 University for the attention and kindness shown to our dog, Fawn. When we brought Fawn to K9 it was a last stitch effort to remedy her destructive behavior. In her first four years of life, she had caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to the home due to pulling up carpet, chewing doors, pulling down window treatments, gnawing on walls and vinyl flooring and going to the bathroom inside the house. She was a very anxious dog by nature, very needy, but also very loving and sweet… to us. She was a fear/anxiety-biter and we quickly learned that socializing her was not going to be possible. It got to the point where we simply didn’t know what to do. I grew up with dogs and learned dog-training basics as a young adult but Fawn needed more than what I could give her. At one point after she caused over $500 worth of damage the first day in our new apartment and tried to attack the maintenance man (breaking through a slatted door to get to him) we discussed the sad possibility of putting her down.

Instead, we gave her one last chance by enrolling her at K9 University while we went on our honeymoon. They were amazing with her! She was so anxious and fearful that she tried to chew through the metal caging the first couple of nights there. She even required sedatives and vet care due to her self-inflicted injuries. No one could get close to her the first couple days and they had to use the special pole-leash to “catch” her in the run so they could take her out and work her. But after less than a week she started to trust them. By two weeks, she was not only coming to them from the run but giving kisses and doing her actions on command with little need for correction! She even shined in group classes to the point that they started using her as an example to other new dogs. Who knew?!

When we got back from our honeymoon and went to our private lesson, we were amazed and a little embarrassed. These people were able to do more with her training, behavior and self-esteem in two weeks than we were able to accomplish in years of trying on our own. My husband, who thought spending money to have a dog trained was absurd at the beginning of the process, quickly became a huge fan. We even put our second dog through the training even though she has no behavioral issues.

It’s so nice to not have to carry a “treat sack” or “clicker” around when you want your dog to do something. K9 trains them to want to do the act for you just to make you happy. And in return that makes the dog happy. Having the flexibility of using hand signals or voice signals has been wonderful, too. But more wonderful than that, is to still have Fawn as a cherished family member almost 10 years later. Her anxiety is much less of an issue than it was before K9. We learned a lot about what kinds of things “set her anxiety off” as well as ways to reassure her generally so that her anxiety is reduced.

Training wasn’t a cure-all, of course. We have a child now, so we are very careful when Fawn is around her. So far, it’s been over two years and Fawn has been nothing but nurturing and loving to our daughter. K9 trained us to be vigilant when it comes to providing boundaries for Fawn and our daughter so both feel safe in the house. Fawn isn’t perfect, but the destructiveness to property literally never happened again once she came home from training. If only we had done it sooner!

Simply put, K9 University saved our dog.

With love,
Bridget & Matt Adell

PS - We also use K9 anytime we need to board our dogs. Not only are their prices reasonable, the dogs actually walk themselves back to the kennel area. We sometimes feel a little jealous because the second we walk into the storefront and our dogs see the staff their tails start wagging like crazy and they barely care about giving us goodbye kisses. What a difference from some other places I used to use where the dogs had to be dragged back to the kennels. Thanks K9!

I have to tell you about your wonderful employee, Fred, at the Garland location. He saved our family lots of heartache by rescuing Dozer (and me). We were in the parking lot before drop-off time began in the morning. I needed to get Dozer out of the back of my vehicle but did not realize that his crate door had come open in transport. As I lifted the hatch, he bounded out with no intention of sitting on command. Fred just happened to be watching from inside and saw that there was no way I would be able to get a choke chain and leash on Dozer. So Fred grabbed a lead, ran outside and slipped it over Dozer's head before he could finish wagging "good morning!" Without Fred's quick thinking, Dozer would have run into traffic and I don't even want to contemplate what surely would have happened to him. Thanks to Fred, we still have our Dozer.

In all fairness, I love everyone at the Garland location: Andra, Andy and everyone behind the scenes are wonderful. We drive from Murphy because I know you treat our Dozer like he's your dog. We look forward to Dozer enjoying some play days at K-9 U very soon. (We will all enjoy his release of energy at your facility!)

Merry Christmas!!

My Shelby Anne recently stayed with K-9 and I wanted to tell what a wonderful job you did. I had someone come look in on her and your staff was the kindest. I don't have to board her alot, however I might need to more in the near future. I have never felt more comfortable leaving her with anyone. You guys worked with my schedule and all of the changes to my schedule and were the most customer friendly and I am just in AWE of what you guys do. I just wanted to thank you.

I've been using your service at the Garland site and just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your staff and the way they take care of Abbie. She is a Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier. I?ve used the Doggie Day Care and am very happy the way Abbie is treated. She doesn?t hesitate to go when I tell her, and believe me she knows; it?s time to go ?play?. That tells me she is well treated and she isn?t afraid to go. The staff welcomes her and me and I am very grateful to have your service available at such a reasonable rate. Keep up the good work.

Chuck,

Andy has been working with Webster (Frenchie) for a couple of years now and thanks to his hard work and continuing hard work ? we are now in Novice Agility.

Webster was at the McKinney Teacup Dog Agility Assoc. event he qualified in two events Tunnels and Jumping. He actually took 2nd place in the beginner?s jumping.

I?ve attached the YouTube videos of those events. We are going to Waco over Thanksgiving Weekend to try our hand at NADAC Agility Trials.

Again, under Andy?s supervision and encouragement ? Webster and I are working as a team. All I really wanted was a good obedient dog and what I have is a dog that amazes me every day and in his willingness to work and try new things.

I give a lot of credit to Andy because he has given me the ability to trust my dog and the foundation for any dog to move on into other areas of dog sports is a solid foundation in obedience and respect.

Thanks again for having Andy be Webster?s personal trainer ? he does a great job!

Hey guys, Andy, Fred, and everyone at Garland K-9,

I just wanted to write and say again how impressed I am with Titus and the training you guys did with him. The reason for this is that I'm visiting family in Ohio and there are many deer around. Tonight there was one in the back woods and he took off to chase it. Now, there have been many well trained and loyal dogs in the course of our family, but Titus makes the first-time list for a dog to give up the primal enticement of a deer chase, and that just on the command to "Come!" Wow! I was just so impressed I had to write and thank you all again (partly out of gratitude that I'm not driving around freezing rural Ohio in the middle of the night yelling for my dog in a state of semi-suppressed panic, but mostly out if a state of Wow, a dog would ditch a deer chase on command?!)

In general, he's doing great and is very healthy. The cooler climate in Kentucky where we're living now seems to suit him well--he's much more energetic, for one thing, without the heavy heat.

Thank you again,
Lucy Unger
